The GHS Reptile Conservation Fund

The GHS Reptile Conservation Fund is a grant program that awards mini grants and awards to government agencies, nature centers and reptile rescue organizations. The funds are typically used for educational materials; off-set veterinary expenses; conservation projects; and the development of herp related exhibits.
Additionally the fund can be used to supplement production and distribution of reptile and amphibian related educational materials. Typically these awards are presented at the discretion of the GHS Board.
The funds for this program are generated through the annual Georgia Reptile Expo and private donations.

GHS Reptile Conservation Fund - Rules for Applying
The Georgia Herpetological Society announces the GHS Herpetological Grants Program to award financial support for educational materials; off-set veterinary expenses; conservation projects; and the development of herp related exhibits for facilities and organizations located within Georgia.
All applications must be received by January 31, and awards will be announced by February 28 of that same year.
Several awards may be available. Interested parties may apply for a grant in any one of the following categories:
1.
Reptile and/or Amphibian Exhibits
2. Research in Herpetology
3. Rescue Group Adoption Program
4. Conservation Projects
5. Educational Materials
An attempt will be made to award grants in each category, but depending on the applicants received, not all categories may receive awards. Some categories may receive more than one award. The Grants Committee reserves the right to reassign the category under which a given proposal is submitted.
To qualify for a grant, the applicant must:
1. Be a member of the Georgia Herpetological Society as of January the previous year.
2. The applicant should also have been an active participant in the previous years Georgia Reptile Expo as an exhibitor in the Conservation Corner.
In accepting a grant, the recipient agrees to abide by all state and federal laws, and to acknowledge the Georgia Herpetological Society in any publications or public presentations (e.g., posters, papers at symposia, etc.) that result from the subsidized project. All published materials should include a copy of the GHS logo.
Proposals should include the following:
1. Statement of the objectives of the proposal, and a statement of under which of the above categories the proposal is being submitted.
2. Description of materials and methods.
3. Complete budget, not to exceed $500.
4. Brief resume of the applicant and background information on that organization should be included.
5. Letters of support from collaborating partners or institutions are encouraged; student applicants must include a letter of support from a faculty adviser.
6. Anticipated completion date for the project.
Proposals should be mailed to the GHS at the address below. Mailed paper applications must be typed using a common font (e.g., Arial, Times, Courier) not smaller than 10pt. When submitting proposals, send four copies of the entire package (e.g. resume, budget, etc.).
Applications should be brief and simple. Complete proposal packages should not exceed five pages (excluding literature citations, applicant’s resume’ and letter[s] of recommendation). Applications must be received by January 31, and awards will be announced by February 28, of that same year.
